Dr. Ajay Nayak is a highly experienced Maxillofacial Radiologist and Oral Physician specializing in 3D maxillofacial imaging and oral mucosal lesion diagnostics. He earned his BDS degree from Bapuji Dental College, Davangere, Karnataka (1997-2002) and then trained in the specialty of Oral Medicine & Radiology for his MDS degree from Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore, Karnataka (2003-2006). Both his degrees were awarded by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
With a career dedicated exclusively to Oral Medicine and Radiology, Dr. Nayak has held academic positions at prestigious dental institutions in Mangalore, Manipal, Nashik, and Karad, training both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He was honoured twice as the “Best Teacher” by the students for his simple and lucid teaching techniques.
He is the Chief Radiologist at INsight CBCT Imaging, India’s first exclusive 3D maxillofacial imaging center, overseeing multiple CBCT centers across Mumbai-Pune region. The 12 years of experience at INsight CBCT interpreting thousands of CBCT scans for various clinical situations has enabled him to understand better the needs of the referring clinician as well as those of the patients. The wealth of this experience has made him an authority in Implantology, Endodontics, Osseous Lesions, TMJ disorders, Sleep Disorders and Orofacial pain diagnosis in the field of Maxillofacial Imaging.
An accomplished researcher and speaker, Dr. Nayak has presented multiple award winning research papers at state, national, and international conferences to great acclaim.
He has also published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He serves on the editorial board and reviewer panels of reputed national and international journals.
He has written a chapter on Orofacial Pain in the book titled “Text Book of Oral Medicine, Oral diagnosis, Oral Radiology”, Editors – Ravikiran Ongole and Praveen BN, by Elsevier Science.
He regularly conducts training workshops on CBCT Imaging for General Dentists and Specialists in India and abroad.
He serves as a part of the teaching faculty team for a few Fellowship and Certificate Courses.
His new CBCT Based Grading System for Severity in Degenerative Joint Disease of TMJ and Upper Cervical Spine was issued a Copyright by the Government of India (Diary No 10814/2024-CO/L dated 30/07/2024).
This work is a consequence of two decades of his experience in the field of TMJ disorders, Sleep Disorders and Orofacial pain diagnosis. His expert opinion on scans of the TMJ and associated region are highly sought by clinicians and patients, both nationally and internationally.
When not involved with scans he holds a keen interest in Hindustani classical music and is an avid follower of Football and Tennis.
He is an ardent animal lover and his pets mean the world to him!
